Abstrak In this research, the aim is to find out the strategy carried out by the East Java Province Communication and Information Service in reducing the spread of hoax news through outreach. The strategy in an effort to reduce the spread of hoax news is carried out so as not to create uproar in the community, especially East Java, because hoax news still occurs frequently at this time. The existence of a socialization strategy that is carried out is expected to be an optimal way to reduce the spread of hoax news. The research conducted is a descriptive research using a qualitative approach. This research focuses on reducing hoax news. Sources of research information were determined using a purposive sampling technique. The data analysis technique used in this study was divided into several stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the research are that the strategy implemented by the Office of Communication and Information Technology of East Java Province using hoax news socialization has been effective and in collaboration with the National Police and the TNI by working according to established laws, and working with KIM (Public Information Group) in implementing socialization in the immediate community. Factors that become obstacles and challenges in the socialization of hoax news are the lack of public awareness in reading and seeking knowledge about hoax news, and believing in hoax content without prior identification, this also makes it a challenge for the East Java Province Communication and Informatics Service to can work optimally with more socialization. Efforts made by the Office of Communication and Informatics in reducing the spread of hoax news is by creating an innovation, namely the HOAX CLINIC web, a website that is used to identify whether news is hoax or not.
